Growth Of Business

Growth of business is key to your new enterprise. No matter what your company sells you have to have people ready to buy. This is where marketing and advertising come into play.

Lets define marketing and advertising so we both have a clear understanding. Advertising is getting the word out about your new business. It can be a small ad in a newspaper or a pay per click campaign that directs a potential buyer to your site. With advertising you are just interested in getting “feet through the door”. This is a lot different from marketing.

With marketing, you are trying to target a specific sector of society and then you lay a foundation for a purchase. What do I mean by that? You utilize your ad copy to sell a specific sector of society that what you have to offer is a must and they should have already purchased.

What would this look like?

An ad could be something like…

Come to Jim’s Bikes for all of your biking needs.

An ad that uses marketing could be something like…

For the best in mountain biking, turn to Jim’s Bikes and tackle the tough trails.

Do you see the difference? In the first ad copy I am looking for anyone interested in bikes and the second I am targeting people who mountain bike.

Some will say that I might lose sales running an ad like the second but I say that the customers that come in based off of the ad are more likely to purchase what they need. Marketing is all about doing the sales before the customer ever enters the door. This makes your job of selling product much easier.

You don’t have to convince any mountain biker of what they need. They probably know better than you. You can then use this same philosophy to go after other sectors within your industry. This is where you can really duplicate your results. You might identify another customer base as beach bikers. You would then target your ads specific to them and try to reach that market for the growth of business.

You never want to leave dollars on the table and when you don’t target your ads you are doing just that. The online world of marketing is just the same. You want to use all the tools at your disposal to a good market share. Don’t leave money on the table!

When you have a presence online your growth of business is much more immediate. There are several things that you can do such as running pay per clicks (ppc), ezine ads, online press releases, ezine articles, and SEO.

The dreaded SEO. Guess what? That is why you are reading this right now. I do not do ppc for this site. I have many sites that generate good income that I do use ppc.

Why not this site?

I use this site as a way to share ideas. Yes…I do include links to my primary business but the point of this blog is to share knowledge with others. I don’t care if you are not interested in my main business, but you should care about the things I have learned so you don’t repeat my mistakes. Advertising and marketing is a tricky business and If you don’t know what you are doing you can lose a lot of money.

For instance, I run a ppc campaign that costs me about $30 per month. I earn well over $200 for that campaign. But, because people have not listened to me in the past… Because, people think they know everything… I have business associates that run ppc ads and spend over $30 in one day!

Now $30 in one day would not be bad if they were making $200 per day but that is not the case. The do not know how to market their business properly and end up losing big time. I hate to see that happen.

Do your homework. If you don’t have time, hire someone who does and knows what they are doing. Don’t think that once you start a business people will come. We do not live in Wayne’s World.

Learn to market your business properly and your growth of business will follow. Don’t just think you can put this on the back burner and everything will be ok. Take control and start working it today.
